Daniel Smith Carbazole Violet is a slightly granular blue-violet, intense color with medium staining properties. A brushstroke of concentrated Carbazole Violet onto dry paper moves the pigment from black-violet to clear purple, and can invent an iris petal with each stroke.

Swatch info: Starting with 10 parts water to 1 part paint (by weight) in the palette, the chemist painted the top half of the swatch uniformly with a round brush to show the paint’s color and characteristics. For the bottom half, a  0.75-inch flat brush was dipped into the paint well just once, then the color was applied in stripes until the brush was dry, which shows the color’s tone and behavior through a wash.
