Daniel Smith Duochrome Hibiscus, part of the Luminescent Watercolors collection,  shifts between red violet and a shimmering iridescent blue Hibiscus violet. Made from mica pigment and thin transparent particles coated with highly reflective metal oxides. Luminescent Watercolors show best as glazes over darker colors and are excellent mixed with other colors, adding a bit of their luminescent glow.

Swatch info: Starting with 10 parts water to 1 part paint (by weight) in the palette, the chemist painted the top half of the swatch uniformly with a round brush to show the paint’s color and characteristics. For the bottom half, a  0.75-inch flat brush was dipped into the paint well just once, then the color was applied in stripes until the brush was dry, which shows the color’s tone and behavior through a wash.
